Hymns Bring us closer to Christ

I know that hymns bring us closer to Christ.

shut thy door

There is one word which I feel sums up why WE as humans forget God or neglect to consider what Jesus Christ has accomplished for us. That word is DISTRACTIONS.

Oh....... just the word puts into my mind the image of little crazy monster creatures who jump up and down to get our attention. They whisper in our ears songs, quotes or lines that change our track of thinking. They cause us to remember things we want or would rather do then to focus on the immediate task.

Of course these creature aren't really seen or even physical real, but distractions really do grab our attention.

Before I became a missionary my prime distraction was my computer. I loved to listen to music, watch movies or shows, google, go on youtube, research, edit photos, make videos, look up recipes and even play bejeweled.

Well let me tell you folks, there surprisingly is a life that is awesome and way worth living that doesn't involve my computer as a distraction!

Yes I am a missionary therefore the urge to be on the computer is not considered or allowed. However lessening the time on, in my case the computer, or other distractions is possible.

While reading in the Book of Mormon I found the solution that was given by Jesus Christ himself.

3 Ne 13:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast ashut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who bseeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

I had never noticed this particular phrase before.
And when thou hast shut thy door.

Heavenly Father know there are distractions! He knows that they are all around us. His solution, Shut thy door.

It is so simple. If we gave up half the we time spend on distractions by shutting the door, we would come closer to Christ.

I know this to be true I have felt it in my life!! Destroy the distractions and give more time to Christ.

Love captain of the initiate plan: destroy distractions!

If you could reach the top floor would you?

Imagine your BIGGEST dream , your GREATEST desire, your FINEST moment.

All of it. All that you could obtain that you ever wanted, it is at a place. That place is on the top floor. The top floor of the building called potential.

Potential is the capability to determine or become. You have entered that building and all that is left is to take the elevator to the top floor.

Would you do it?

I would assume that everyone would!!! However I have learned from the experience of the world, others and even myself we often shy away from doing our very best. From becoming that person we want to see in the mirror looking back.

Why? Why when all we have to do is push the button that takes us to the top floor?

I believe it's because we are scared, that once we reach it, what we hoped would be there wont be or that we wont be able to sustain who we have become on the way there.

So instead of taking the energy to get to the top floor we settle for the bottom or lower floors.

What I have learned, know and try to apply is NEVER settle. You are a child of God!

Galations 3: 26 For ye are all the achildren of God.

"You are smarter than you think, braver than you believe and stronger than you feel." -Christopher Robbin

You go to that top floor. You can do it. Don't fear.

Be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the aLord thy God iswith thee whithersoever thou goest.

God is with you and will help you get there. The top floor is where He lives. I have not been to the top floor myself, however I have felt a sliver of what I know it will feel like.

All of us can reach that top floor. All of us have the potential to be like our Father in Heaven. Set that as your goal. Is you are ever asked, "If you could reach the top floor would you?"
I hope your answer is YES! I know mine will be love!!

Love your fellow follower of Christ,

The most important phrase.

I am a child of God.

And He has sent me here.

Has given me an Earthly home.

With parents kind and dear.

Lead me,

guide me

Walk beside me.

Help me find the way.

Teach me all that I must do

to live with Him someday.

This is the most important phrase.

I am a child of God.

To pass the point.

There is a split moment in everything that is very crucial.

This moment is what I call "the POINT."

It is the moment when everything up until that position of time builds and then something happens or changes.

To explain the point I think of a sunset. The sun descends until it is just a sliver and then is it gone.

The point is a drop of water just about to fall. It gets heavier and heavier and then plop it falls.

The point is when you are so tired and on the brisk of falling asleep and the last thing you remember is the ceiling...... then boom you are asleep.

The point is the very last second of something before the change. It is the change from old to new. It is as quick as a snap and turns into something totally different.

I have pondered the idea of the point often and always my mind travels to the question, "What causes the point to take place?"

In a scientific setting, I am sure there is a complicated answer with a ridiculous math equation supporting it. However in a spiritual context, there is a supreme God who knows the answer. As I have contemplated the idea I have better understood this question more.

To me the answer is real intent to become.

Real intent is to mean it. Become is to begin to be. To follow through. To not look back. To be sincere and act.

D&C 39:4 But to as many as received me, gave I power to become myasons; and even so will I give unto as many as will receive me, power to become my sons.

I have reached "the point" in my life before. When I have I learn, I grow and become better. I know that God intents for each of us to reach the point. The point where we change and become better. The moment when we have real intent and go. I am so grateful for this knowledge and gospel and that it helps me reach "the point" all the time. So if you haven't in a while, reach the point and change.

Follow the Prophet..... Ancient and current

Personal study has been in Helaman lately and I love it!

Can I just say chapters 7-9 are amazing!!!

Let me tell you why!

Ok so Nephi (named after the original Nephi 300+ years earlier) is sad and disappointed in the Nephites wickedness. So he goes on a tower in a garden by the highway to the market in Zarahemla and prays.
(Here is a little picture I drew to understand the setting ) :)

Well these guys see him praying and gather lots of friends to watch. They hear him praying to God regarding THEIR wickedness and so they get mad! Well Nephi finishes his prayer and sees the crowd. He straight up calls them out! He states why they gathered and then he tells them of their wickedness, corruption and that they need to repent and turn to God.

Well of course being unrighteous and prideful they desire to put an end to him and his preaching.

Except....................... some.

Helaman 8:And it came to pass that thus they did astir up the people to anger against Nephi, and raised contentions among them; for there were some who did cry out: bLet this man alone, for he is a good man, and those things which he saith will surely come to pass except we repent;

These some are amazing to me! These are they who stand up for what is right. They recognize righteous and good. They are so good at being examples and sharing their testimony that the others don't persecute Nephi.

I know in today's world the scenario is different than this situation, however the moral remains the same.

We have prophets telling us what to do to be better and closer to God. We need to listen and follow their example. When we stand up and follow their heed and counsel we are saved from unwanted difficulties and receive blessings we are in much need of. I am so grateful for a prophet and I know that Jesus Christ chosen servant to lead His church today is President Monson.

I love my Savior and am so grateful I was called by His prophet to serve here in DC South.

Follow the prophet he knows the way!
